Sean McVay, the surf enthusiast, was born and
raised on the island of Honolulu Hawaii.
Sean McVay has always shown a love for the ocean.
He recalls his father constantly bringing him to the beach every Sunday to
catch sand crabs and body board. When in high school, Sean excelled in all his
studies and achieved high honors when he graduated in 2007. While in high
school, Sean loved to play basketball and played for Damien’s team for freshman
and sophomore year. When Sean McVay left the team his sophomore year he got a
job as a bus boy for a small sushi restaurant in order to save up money to buy
his own surfboard. Finally after four months of saving money, Sean McVay
finally bought his very own surfboard and no longer had to borrow his father’s
board.

Sean McVay was spotted every day after school
changing in the parking lot into surf trunks before heading to the beach. Sean
McVay’s parents mentioned that Sean would be at the beach for atleast two hours
every day before coming home. Sean McVay was an excellent surfer but did not
want to compete or become a professional at it, instead Sean developed a dream
to own his own surf shop. So when Sean McVay graduated from Damien, he decided
to major in graphic design and minor in business while attending University of
Hawaii Manoa.
Sean McVay was very determined in turning his
dream in to reality so he effectively managed to balance work and school which
meant that surfing took a backseat on his priority list. After Sean McVay’s
finished his first year of college, he interests slowly turned from surf to
coffee. Spending countless hours at the school’s cafĂ©, Sean McVay realized that
coffee is a huge commodity to everyone.Sean McVay then
edited his dream of
owning a surf shop into owning his own coffee shop. Filled with such passion
for coffee, Sean McVay took a year off and moved to the Philippines to start
growing coffee on his family’s land. For a year Sean McVay did many travelling
to better understand coffee and his love for coffee outgrew his love for surf
until his trip to Bali.

While visiting a friend in Bali, Sean McVay picked
up a surf board after 8 months of not being in the water. His friend, Alex, was
also a large surf enthusiast and convinced Sean McVay to keep his love for surf
alive. It was then where Sean McVay realized that he would bring back his dream
of opening his own surf after establishing his coffee shop.
Sean McVay is undergoing his last year of college
education and expects to graduate in 2014 receiving his Bachelor’s in Fine Arts
and minoring in Business Adminstration.
